This accessibility statement applies to https://www.visit-erewash.co.uk.
This website is run by Erewash Borough Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings.
- Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen.
- Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).
- Access text alternatives for most non-text content.
- Easily navigate, find content and determine where you are on the site.
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The interactive map on this site does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). The map is a visual tool that relies on sight to navigate. Adding text alternatives to the map images would not make the map itself usable for people who cannot see it.
The map also has other accessibility issues, including low contrast, missing labels, redundant links, very small text and the use of layout tables. These issues make the map harder to use for some people. This may not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships) and 1.4.3 (Contrast – minimum).
To avoid confusion for people using a keyboard, we have removed the map from the tab order. This means it is skipped during keyboard navigation instead of appearing as a series of unusable links. This may fail WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard (all functionality must be operable through a keyboard interface).
We provide a text alternative: either an A–Z or numerical list of all the points of interest shown on the map. This list contains the same information and links and can be used with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
Forms that use Google reCAPTCHA may trigger automated testing alerts, such as missing form labels or the presence of a <noscript> element. These issues are caused by the way reCAPTCHA is built and cannot currently be fixed by us. They may fail WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships and 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value but do not prevent people from completing forms.
PDFs and other documents – Our site may link to PDFs and documents hosted either by us or by other organisations. We work to make these accessible, but this may fail WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content if text alternatives are missing.
Video – Some pages use decorative video. These videos do not have audio. In most cases, the content of the video is also described in text on the page. Where it is not, we provide a text alternative. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.1 (Audio-only and video-only – prerecorded).
Images of text – Some images of text are used, for example poster images for videos and sub-brand logos in the footer. We provide alternative text or ARIA labels for these. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.5 Images of Text.
Third-party tools (Google reCAPTCHA) – Automated testing tools may report issues such as a missing form label or a <noscript> element. These are part of the reCAPTCHA code and cannot be fixed by us. They do not stop people completing forms. If you cannot use reCAPTCHA, please contact us by email at [email protected] and we will provide another way to submit your request. This may fail WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships and4.1.2 Name, Role, Value.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
- We will continue to maintain the A–Z list of points of interest as the accessible alternative to the interactive map.
- We are reviewing all new videos before publication to ensure they have appropriate text alternatives or captions where needed.
- We will ensure any new PDFs or documents we publish meet accessibility standards, and we are gradually replacing older documents where possible.
- We are monitoring feedback and will fix accessibility issues that are within our control as they are identified.
- We are monitoring accessibility issues with third-party tools such as Google reCAPTCHA and will implement fixes when they become available.
- Reviewing third-party plugins and tools to identify more accessible alternatives where available.
- Reviewing the implementation of the cookie consent banner to ensure future solutions meet accessibility standards.
